News

WE'RE ORGANIC! : On July 27 we received word that 12 of our Burien house-brewed beers had been awarded organic certification from the WA Dept. of Agriculture. Elliott Bay Brewing Co. is the first brewery in King County to brew certified organic beer and the only brewery in the state to gain certification for so many of its beers.

Check out the SEATTLE TIMES article about our brewery and its organic beer.

TOP 5 BREWPUBS! : Elliott Bay Brewery and Pub in West Seattle was chosen the #4 brewpub in Western Washington by King 5.com. Given all the excellent brewpubs in our area, this is quite an honor!

Check out the list. Our thanks to all of you who voted!

WINTER BEER FEST 12.5-6.08 : Elliott Bay Brewing will once again paticipate in this year's event, pouring Noale Holiday Ale and Smoked Porter

We'll be selling advance tickets at both pubs. Don't miss this premier event featuring many unique beers.

Visit the festival web site for directions, details, and a list of beers pouring this year.

BURIEN BRUNCH : The Brewhouse is now serving brunch from every Saturday and Sunday. Join us for blueberry pancakes, sausage hash, breakfast burritos, biscuits and gravy, and chicken fried steak. You can also try a mimosa or an Orgnaic Coffee Stout!

EDIBLE SEATTLE ARTICLE : Our Head Brewer, Doug Hindman, was interviewed for an article in the most recent edition of Edible Seattle dealing with the relationship between brewers and hop growers. Read the article entitled "The Audacity of Hops."

CASK SECOND WEDNESDAY IS BACK!

We've launched a new tradition called Cask Second Wednesdays.

We'll pour a keg of cask-conditioned ale from our West Seattle store straight from the keg and right on the bar top. It don't get no fresher than that!

This month's treat will feature Imperial Brown. The keg will start pouring at 3:00 PM on 11/12.

Quantities are limited, so hurry on in.

KEGS TO GO:

We have begun filling a couple of kegs each week for retail sale. Supply is limited to what we have on hand and styles will vary from week to week, depending upon what beer we have in surplus. Call the pub and ask for a list of the types and sizes of kegs currently available. Special orders can be filled with a week's notice.

WEB LOG LAUNCH: 12.07

Check out the latest addition to our web site: the Green Team Blog.

We've posted information there detailing some of our efforts to bring our business practices in line with our environmental principles.

P-I ARTICLE: 11.20.06

BEST BAR/PUB + BEST BURGER:

Thanks to readers of the WS Herald for honoring us with the distiction of Best Bar / Pub in West Seattle and for voting ours the Best Burgers west of the Duwamish.

SEASONAL BEERS:

Beer von Boorian Series: We're taking on yet another brewing challenge in 2007...managing a Belgian yeast strain. Our plan is to brew a recipe at each of the pubs on an alternating basis so as to keep the yeast active and viable. This will mean some new recipes in addition to variations of some old favorites. The first batch, a hoppy Belgian pale ale we're calling Hop von Boorian, is pouring now.

DONE GONE GREEN:

We're now participating in Puget Sound Energy's Green Power program and purchasing approximately 60% of our electricity from wind power sources.

In addition, we've worked with City Light to replace (where possible) most of our old lights with the latest generation of energy efficient florescents, saving a heap of electricity over the course of the year while also providing better light for our employees to work by.

Elliott Bay is proud to have been selected to be among the first restaurants in West Seattle to take part in recycling all of our food waste instead of sending it to the landfill.

If that all weren't cool enough, we've replaced the company vehicle with a diesel truck that is running on biodiesel!

HAPPY HOUR EXTENDED: You can now enjoy special prices on house beer from 3-6 PM AND from 10 PM until close Monday-Saturday and 9 PM until close on Sunday. Can you feel the love?

LATE NIGHT: Our kitchen now serves food until 11:30 PM Monday-Saturday and until 10:30 PM on Sundays.

NWSOURCE FINALIST:

Elliott Bay made the short list of finalists for the "Best Brewpubs of 2006" in a NWSource.com poll. Check out the People's Picks...we're keeping pretty good company these days!

SEATTLE WEEKLY: Happy Hour: A recent review by the Seattle Weekly notes that "Elliott Bay is a good place to wind down the day if you enjoy a fresh pint of good brew." We couldn't agree more! Read the review right here.

ORGANIC MALT: Elliott Bay uses only certified organic pale malt as the base malt in all its regular house beers. Expect the same great flavor with an added dose of good karma from knowing that the ingredients in your beer do the earth some good too!

WA AWARD WINNERS: View the list of award-winning WA breweries.

NEW MENU AND WEB SITE: We recently redesigned our menu and web site. A few new food items were added and the look was completely overhauled. Our web site, designed by Tansi Graphics, includes many new features and has a much more "polished" look.

BEER FROM HERE: Looking to learn a bit more about beer brewed in Washington? Check out Washingtonbeer.com, a web site produced by the Washington Beer Commission to highlight exactly why beer from our state is the freshest available.
