What’s in Your Cauldron?

Today we’re concocting our special blend of Organic Mashing Pumpkin Ale + a pinch of this and a splash of that.

The resulting mixture will make its debut at the Great Pumpkin Festival at Elysian Brewing on Sat. + Sun. Oct. 16 + 17.

We’ll be digging around in the cellar looking for beers that match well with the base pumpkin ale (think barrel-aged dark beers) and then working our magic to create something that is (hopefully) greater than the sum of its parts.

Guest blenders will be in the house too to lend their expert opinions to the project…ain’t nothin’ but an alchemy thang, y’all.

Brewing Fresh Hop Ale in Burien

Here’s a fresh pic of the last addition on fresh Amarillo hops steeping in the batch of Hop Harvest Ale we brewed in Burien today.

Two weeks ago we made a run to Wapato,WA to fetch the hops right out of the grower’s kiln. In the brew house today we managed to capture much of their fleeting aromatic goodness by adding the dried cones at the end of the boil, in the whirlpool, and in the “hop back” (pictured at left) as the wort was being transferred to the fermentor.

It will be a few weeks yet before this one hits the taps, but all you lucky patrons of EBBC will have the privilege of tasting two different fresh hop ales in October.

Don’t ya just love this time of year?!

CASK BEER in Burien Today

On the second Wednesday of each month we release a keg of CASK-CONDITIONED beer at our pub in BURIEN that was brewed in West Seattle.

This month’s selection, “One Hop Pale Ale” is based on our Sunnydale Pale Ale recipe but hopped solely with Crystal hop pellets, yielding a bright new flavor and aroma unfamiliar to fans of Elliott Bay beer.

Come taste the ultra-fresh and un-fined version of this late summer seasonal. We tap the keg at 3:00 PM.

Elliott Bay Acquires Third Location

Yesterday, August 31st, Elliott Bay Brewing Co. closed on a building in the Lake City neighborhood, where it will locate its third brewpub.

While the deal on the building is done, EBBC will not take possession of the future brewpub space until May 2011. At that time the build-out will begin, with the intention of opening the doors for business by the end of the year.

Currently the plan is to get the restaurant opened first, initially drawing beer from the two existing locations, in Burien and West Seattle, until the brewing facility in Lake City is fully operational.

Address = 12537 Lake City Way NE, Seattle, WA 98125

Stay tuned for further updates on this latest EBBC project as they unfold.

Cheers to another fine eating and drinking establishment in the Seattle area!
